KING Art has finally locked in the launch date for the long-awaited return to the series' RTS roots. While the base game promises a massive 70-mission campaign and the debut of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the post-launch roadmap is what really caught my eye. This isn't just a one-and-done release; the developers are planning a year of support that addresses exactly what veteran players have been asking for.
Year one will see a mix of free updates and premium expansions. The biggest win for the community is the confirmation of Crusade Mode and a full Mission Editor as free post-launch content. Adding a mission editor specifically suggests a long-term commitment to the modding community and custom skirmish scenes, which kept previous entries in the series alive for decades.
Premium DLC and New Factions
For those looking to expand their narrative experience, two major premium DLC expansions are already on the books. The first, The Blood Ravens Story Prologue, signals a return to the chapter that defined the series for many of us. Following that, the Aftermath expansion will introduce an entirely new playable faction to the meta, though the specifics of that faction remain under wraps in the Inquisition's vaults for now.
Pre-orders are currently live for both the Standard and Commander Editions. If you're a strategy fan, the focus on resource management and base building here feels like a direct response to the feedback from the last decade of Warhammer gaming. September 17 can't come soon enough for those of us ready to purge in the name of the Emperor—or the Omnissiah.
