Facepunch Studios has officially revealed this heavy-duty gear, confirming it will offer protection levels comparable to the current meta of metal armour with plates. However, there is a massive catch that will shift how players approach the endgame: the Ballistic Armour set cannot be crafted. Unlike the high-tier sets we are used to manufacturing in the safety of our bases, this set must be found within the game world.
This change is a significant move toward a "found-only" economy for the absolute best gear in the game. By removing the ability to mass-produce this armour at a workbench, Rust is incentivizing players to leave their compounds and contest high-tier monuments. It levels the playing field slightly between massive clans who can craft endless kits and smaller groups who are willing to take the risk of scavenging in high-stakes zones.
Expect the meta to shift toward more frequent skirmishes at major loot sites as players hunt for these pieces. While it provides top-tier protection, the rarity of the set means losing a piece in a PvP encounter will be a much heavier blow than losing a standard set of craftable metal gear. This adds a layer of gear fear that has been somewhat missing from the late-game experience recently.
