With Routine set to launch on December 4, 2025, Lunar Software has dropped the final piece of the pre-release puzzle: the hardware requirements. In the fourth installment of their developer Q&A, the team detailed exactly what kind of rig you'll need to survive the lunar base, alongside crucial details for handheld users and console players.
Routine PC System Requirements
The good news for PC players is that this 80s-inspired sci-fi horror title won't require a beastly machine to get started. The minimum specifications are surprisingly accessible for a 2025 release, suggesting the game's distinct retro-futuristic art style is well-optimized.
Minimum Specifications:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
- GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 570
- RAM: 8GB
Seeing the GTX 1060 listed as the baseline is a relief. It means players holding onto older hardware won't be locked out of the experience. While recommended specs will naturally demand more power for higher resolutions and framerates, the floor for entry is very reasonable.
Will Routine work on Steam Deck?
For the portable crowd, the situation is nuanced. Lunar Software confirmed that Routine will launch in a "Playable" state on the Steam Deck. This usually implies the game runs well but might require some manual tweaking of settings or interaction with the touchscreen for launchers. The developers have stated they are aiming for the full "Verified" green checkmark post-launch, but for day one, expect a solid—if not perfectly seamless—experience.
Interestingly, the game will be Verified on the ROG Ally X right at launch. Since the Ally runs Windows, this verification likely points to good controller mapping and performance scaling on the Z1 Extreme chip without the compatibility layers Linux-based decks have to navigate.
Console Performance and Cloud Gaming
If you're jumping in on Xbox Series X|S, you won't be stuck at 30 FPS. The Q&A confirmed a dedicated Performance Mode for consoles. In a first-person horror game where evasion is your primary defense, those extra frames can be the difference between escaping an enemy and a "Game Over" screen. Smooth movement is critical when you're trying to outmaneuver threats in tight corridors.
Finally, for those without a console or gaming PC, Routine is confirmed for GeForce Now on day one. If your internet can handle the stream, you can bypass the hardware requirements entirely.
