As we transition toward the Return of the Ancients expansion on May 29th, the current Fate of the Vaal leagues are drawing to a close. For those of us pushing the endgame, this isn't just a reset—it is a massive mechanical overhaul that changes how we interact with the ancient ruins of Wraeclast.
Beginning May 25th, characters from the temporary leagues will migrate to the Early Access Standard and Hardcore leagues. This migration sets the stage for the full 0.5.0 patch notes arriving on May 21st, which detail how the Temple will function as a core mechanic. You will start encountering Vaal Beacons as early as Act Three, with the final Temple tier scaling directly with your map area level in the endgame.
The most significant change for builders is the rework of Vaal Infusers. Instead of a generic item, these are being split into four distinct currency types: Armour, Martial Weapon, Caster Weapon, and Jewellery. This should make target-farming specific upgrades much less of a gamble. Additionally, GGG is introducing Tier 4 rooms via the Atlas Tree, offering even greater rewards for those who specialize in Vaal content.
One of the best quality-of-life fixes addresses the notorious "snake" strategy. Previously, destabilizing a room could create a frustrating dead end. Now, rooms will downgrade into paths rather than being removed entirely, ensuring your Temple run remains fluid. With society in Wraeclast rebuilding 20 years after Kitava's fall, these ancient power sources are once again ripe for the taking—or for our corruption.
