Controller players are finally getting the toolkit they need to fine-tune their mechanics. Overwatch 2 Season 20, launching December 9, 2025, is introducing a massive suite of aim assist improvements and customization options designed to modernize how the game feels on console.
Closing the Gap on Aim Assist Strength
If you've bounced between Overwatch 2 and other modern shooters, you might have noticed the aim assist here feels a bit lighter. Blizzard agrees. With the Season 20 update, the base aim assist strength is receiving a buff of roughly 6% to 8%, depending on your distance from the target.
This adjustment isn't just about making the game easier; it's about consistency. The developers noted that Overwatch 2's assist values were lagging behind industry standards. This bump should make tracking fast-moving targets like Tracer or Lucio feel less slippery without doing all the work for you.
How will the new sliders change your settings?
The most significant change for veteran players is the splitting of the "Aim Assist Ease In" setting. Previously, this was a global value. Now, it is being fractured into three distinct sliders:
- Projectile Ease In
- Hitscan Ease In
- Melee Ease In
This is a major quality-of-life win for flex players. The muscle memory required to land shots with Cassidy (hitscan) is fundamentally different from leading rockets with Pharah (projectile). You can now tighten up your hitscan tracking while keeping your projectile aiming loose, without having to constantly menu-dive between rounds.
A Game-Changer for Support Mains
Anyone who plays Ana or Kiriko on a controller knows the pain of "friendly aim assist." You're trying to heal your critical Tank, but a full-health Genji dashes across your screen, and your crosshair gets dragged away against your will.
Season 20 introduces a Friendly Aim Assist Health Threshold. By default, this is set to 99%, meaning aim assist will kick in for any ally who isn't at full health. However, you can lower this. If you set it to 50%, your aim assist will completely ignore teammates until they are actually in danger. This allows Supports to look past healthy allies to target the ones who actually need saving.
Turning Speed and Response
To round out the update, four new sensitivity sliders are being added specifically to address turning speeds. High-mobility heroes often require high sensitivity to check corners or do 180-degree turns, but that same sensitivity can ruin your long-range precision. These new sliders aim to bridge that gap, giving you faster turning capabilities without sacrificing micro-adjustments.
These changes go live alongside the rest of the Season 20 content on December 9, 2025.
