As we approach the 2026 release window, the latest dev diary introduces us to Dokyo, a "Formidable Foe" who is far from your typical Genma monster. Operating out of an underground laboratory, Dokyo is a mad scientist with a flair for the local culture—she is currently the only character confirmed to speak in a traditional Kyoto dialect. This adds a layer of eerie authenticity to her character that sets her apart from the more primal threats we've seen so far.
From a gameplay perspective, Dokyo brings a unique threat to the table. She utilizes a specialized mechanic involving red threads woven around her fingertips. While the exact impact on combat remains to be seen, the visual cues suggest a trap-based or restrictive fighting style that will force players to be precise with their movement and parries. It’s a refreshing departure from the brute force usually associated with the series' antagonists.
On the flip side of the blade, we have more clarity on Musashi’s progression. The historical figure Ono no Takamura has been revealed as Musashi’s mentor. Empowered by the Oni Gauntlet himself, Takamura serves as a strict instructor in the art of the sword. Expect him to be the narrative and mechanical anchor for learning new techniques and mastering the gauntlet's mystical powers. Having a mentor who actually shares your supernatural burden should make for some compelling story beats as Musashi searches for his reason to fight in a world consumed by Malice.
