The headline addition for the new season is Dire Marsh (Night), a map that forces a change in how we approach extraction. Visibility is at a premium here, making new utility gear like Flashlights and specialized Vector rounds essential for survival. It is a bold move from Bungie to lean into the atmospheric dread of Tau Ceti IV, turning a standard extraction run into something that feels much more high-stakes and claustrophobic.
For those who prefer to hold their ground, the new Sentinel Shell is designed for area control. Its signature Defender System—a deployable laser platform—provides the kind of fire support that can turn a desperate extraction into a fortified lockdown. This shell looks to be a meta-shifter for squads who find themselves constantly pinched between aggressive rival Runners and the planet's hostile fauna.
How does The Cradle work?
The most significant technical change is the replacement of the old shell upgrade path with "The Cradle." This new progression system allows you to convert looted items directly into energy stats, giving you more granular control over your build. Instead of being locked into rigid paths, you can now allocate stats to fit your specific playstyle, which should significantly increase build diversity across the board.
Bungie is also hosting an Open Play Week from June 2 to June 9. This is a great window for new players to jump in, especially since all progress earned during the week carries over into the full season. Ranked play will follow shortly after on June 14, offering a fresh ladder to climb with a new set of seasonal rewards. With two new weapons—the KKV-9SD SMG and the D54 Battle Pistol—landing on day one, the sandbox is about to get a lot more interesting.
