The days of missing critical squad messages just because you closed the game are over. Epic Games just flipped the switch on a huge quality-of-life upgrade, linking your direct message (DM) and group text chats from Fortnite directly to the broader Epic Games ecosystem.
Since December 19, 2025, chats are syncing seamlessly between the game client, the Epic Games Store (EGS), and the new Epic Games mobile apps on iOS. This means you can finally coordinate those late-night V-Bucks purchases or plan your next drop rotation while you’re AFK from your console. No more waiting until you load into the lobby just to see if your squad is ready to play.
A Unified Chat Experience
This synchronization feature significantly streamlines communication. If you start a group chat in-game, you can now continue that conversation on your phone or PC without ever launching the Battle Royale. Messages will stick around for 30 days across all your logged-in devices, ensuring you don't lose track of important planning.
How Does This Change Squad Coordination?
The biggest impact is convenience. It turns the platform from a siloed in-game chat system into a robust, cross-platform messenger. Inside Fortnite itself, the sidebar has been redesigned to better house these text chats, friend requests, and your primary friends list. This UI refresh makes managing your connections much cleaner.
For those playing on PC, the full synchronization is coming soon: the feature is set to expand to the Epic Games Launcher and Android apps starting in January 2026. Epic also confirmed that existing parental controls and content filters remain fully active for these synced chats, maintaining a safe environment.
