The headline for many players will be the Balkan Content Expansion. This update brings much-needed depth to the region, supported by a total rework of Orthodoxy. Instead of a static faith, we now have character-based Patriarchs, adding a layer of internal politics that makes managing Eastern European states significantly more complex. Combined with 150 new Dynamic Historical Events, the early game in the Mediterranean feels more alive than ever.
For those playing the diplomatic game in Central Europe, the HRE overhaul is a game-changer. The AI has received a personality boost, and the new Papal Authority system shifts how you’ll interact with the Emperor and the Church. On the economic side, the introduction of Trade Orders and Maritime Presence means you can no longer ignore your merchant fleet if you want to dominate global markets.
Military enthusiasts haven't been left out. The 1.2 patch introduces more granular logistics and a troop split mechanic that rewards careful planning over simple doomstacking. To help keep track of all these changes, Paradox Tinto has finally added an in-game Event Viewer, allowing you to look back at the history of your nation without digging through menus.
Note for active campaigns: Due to the sheer volume of rule changes and the 5be7 checksum update, starting a new save is highly recommended. Your old save files likely won't play nice with the new economic and diplomatic systems.
