For long-time Guardians who remember the Red Legion invasion and the loss of the Light, the return of SRL is more than just a mini-game—it represents a return to some of the most unique competitive fun in Destiny 2 history. This version of SRL comes with new twists, fresh loot, and updated tracks designed for modern Sparrow physics.
The Director is also getting a facelift. Bungie is streamlining the layout to make Destination loot more transparent and easier to track. Navigating between the Tower, the HELM, and various planets should feel significantly faster. Alongside this, a new feature called "Distortions" is being added to Patrol zones. These appear to be high-intensity world events that will spice up the standard planetary exploration, offering a greater challenge for veteran players looking for more than just public events.
The update also breathes new life into underplayed modes. Gambit is being rebranded as Gambit Ops, likely bringing a more structured, strike-like flow to the Drifter's game. We are also seeing the return of Heavy Metal, a mode that leans into the chaotic side of the sandbox. The Portal is also receiving a full overhaul, though Bungie is keeping the specific mechanical changes under wraps for now. With the weapons sandbox preview coming in the next Dev Insights, the meta is about to shift significantly before the Monument of Triumph begins.
