As a tactical shooter simulation released in 2003, you command the elite counter-terrorism unit Rainbow, investigating modern threats linked to post-WWII secrets. Gameplay demands meticulous planning, precise execution, and realistic squad coordination over run-and-gun action. Distinctive features include an extensive arsenal with upgrades and the ability to view your weapon model in first-person, enhancing immersion during high-stakes hostage rescues and anti-terror operations.
The game emphasizes realism and meticulous planning, placing it firmly within the tactical shooter genre. Unlike faster-paced action titles, success hinges on preparation, precise execution, and teamwork. Players must carefully select their loadouts, plan entry points, and coordinate squad movements before engaging hostiles.
A key mechanical feature introduced in this installment is the ability for players to see their weapon model while in the first-person view, adding a layer of visual immersion. The arsenal is extensive, featuring numerous new weapons and upgrade options that allow for deep customization based on mission parameters.
The game distinguishes itself through its commitment to tactical simulation. Missions often require non-lethal resolutions or hostage rescue, demanding restraint and strategic positioning over brute force. The atmosphere is tense, reflecting the high-stakes nature of counter-terrorism operations where a single mistake can lead to mission failure.
The core experience is supported by three official expansion packs released post-launch, adding new missions, equipment, and operational scenarios to the base game.
The title features a redesigned multiplayer component, focusing on competitive tactical engagements that test a player's ability to coordinate with human teammates against other skilled opponents, emphasizing the core mechanics of planning and execution in a team setting.

Iron Wrath is the second expansion for the PC version of Raven Shield. It was in production for almost 2 years before Ubisoft decided to release it as a free download for FilePlanet subscribers on June 9, 2005. Developed by Ubisoft-Casablanca, this latest expansion features a 7-mission campaign in which Rainbow neutralizes a terrorist nuclear bomb threat, 3 classic missions, 8 new multiplayer maps, 6 new weapons, as well as 5 new multiplayer game modes. In October 2008, the CD-key activation server was taken offline, suspending the multiplayer features of Iron Wrath.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Athena Sword is an expansion pack for Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. It adds a new storyline of missions, alongside a multitude of new maps.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Raven Shield is a mobile game in the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Franchise based on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. Developed by Gameloft, it features gameplay similar to other mobile titles in the franchise but retains the overall story of its console counterpart.

The console version of Rainbow Six 3 features similar mission locations and layouts to the PC version, but an entirely different plot. Rainbow responds to a series of terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in South America, apparently being conducted by Islamic terrorists sponsored by Saudi Arabia. However, the true mastermind behind the attacks is actually the newly elected President of Venezuela, Juan Crespo. Crespo managed to get elected by advocating a strong anti-terror platform and exploiting the fear caused by the terrorist attacks (which he himself orchestrated). Crespo's plan is to discredit Saudi Arabia, then cut off the Venezuelan supply of oil to the United States, creating an oil crisis and driving up the price of oil, which he would then sell to the US on the black market at highly inflated prices.
