The Crew: Motorfest is an open-world racing adventure set within a large automotive festival in Hawaii. The core gameplay loop involves exploring the island and participating in curated "Playlists," which are themed collections of events focusing on specific car cultures or vehicle types, offering varied driving challenges across diverse terrains. Released in 2023, its distinctive feature is this Playlist system, guiding players through specialized content rather than a standard linear career path, all while building an extensive garage of licensed vehicles.
This is a main entry in the open-world racing genre, released in September 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC (Microsoft Windows), Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One platforms. The core experience centers around joining a unique, large-scale automotive festival set against the backdrop of a beautiful Hawaiian open world.
The atmosphere is built around celebrating diverse car culture, offering players a vibrant setting to explore and participate in various driving activities. The game emphasizes variety in its driving experiences, moving beyond traditional circuit racing to encompass a broad spectrum of automotive enthusiasm.
The gameplay revolves around participation in the Motorfest itself, which serves as the central hub and progression system. Players engage with numerous themed Playlists, each focusing on a specific aspect of car culture, historical eras, or vehicle types. This structure allows for constant shifts in driving style and vehicle focus, ensuring variety in the moment-to-moment action.
Exploration is a significant component, utilizing the expansive Hawaiian map for free-roam driving between events. The mechanics support seamless transitions between different types of races, challenges, and showcases, encouraging players to experiment with their extensive vehicle collection across varied terrain, from paved roads to off-road environments.
The primary distinguishing feature is the Playlist system. Instead of a linear career path, players select curated collections of events that dive deep into specific automotive themes. Whether the focus is on vintage Japanese imports, electric vehicles, or high-performance supercars, these Playlists offer tailored experiences that guide the player through specialized content.
Furthermore, the game features a dedicated focus on presenting a festival atmosphere, where the environment and the events are designed to feel like a continuous celebration of automotive passion rather than just a series of isolated races.
Players build their garage by acquiring a wide array of licensed vehicles. While the focus is on driving performance and visual representation, the system supports collecting vehicles relevant to the different Playlists tackled within the festival setting.
As of the current date, the game includes two downloadable content (DLC) packages that introduce new content and experiences to the core game structure. There are no expansions or remakes associated with this title.
