Team Fortress 2: Australian Christmas is a major content update for the class-based shooter, released in late 2011. This patch primarily focused on expanding cosmetic options with new item sets for the Pyro and Engineer, and introduced the new map, Foundry. Distinctive features included a temporary "double drop week" to boost item acquisition, and the rollout of community-created content via specialized Winter Crates, which offered Festive-titled weapons and workshop items, rewarding active players with unique consumables upon conclusion.
The initial phase of the update introduced specialized cosmetic item sets tailored for two of the game's classes: the Pyro and the Engineer. Furthermore, players experienced a temporary boost to item acquisition, as a double drop week was implemented, effectively doubling the rate at which in-game items were earned between December 15th and December 21st.
A notable addition to the map rotation was the introduction of Foundry, a new environment for players to engage in combat. Alongside this, a unique achievement-related cosmetic item, the Full Head of Steam, was made available.
The second part of the update significantly altered how community-created content was distributed. Items contributed by the community via the Steam Workshop became accessible. These items were obtainable exclusively by unlocking the Nice Winter Crate, which required the purchase of a corresponding key from the Mann Co. Store.
In parallel with the community content, a separate crate, the Naughty Winter Crate, was introduced. Unlocking this crate required a different, specific key. This crate contained standard weapons adorned with holiday-themed lighting and were designated with the "Festive" title, offering a visual alteration to existing armaments.
As the event concluded around the night of December 21st, all active players were awarded the Spirit of Giving item. Additionally, all premium accounts received a complimentary Secret Saxton, a consumable item used to gift items to other players.
This specific release is classified solely as an update to the core game experience. It does not include any separate DLCs or standalone expansions.
