This 2002 arcade-style platformer requires you to guide a monkey in a ball through mazes by tilting the environment. Gameplay features Story Mode (unlimited retries) and Challenge Mode (limited lives/time). Uniquely, the game also includes over a dozen competitive party games like racing and billiards. The plot centers on recovering stolen bananas from the antagonist, Dr. Bad-Boon.
In the Story Mode, players advance through distinct worlds, each comprising ten stages. This mode offers an unlimited number of retries, allowing for repeated attempts at mastering difficult layouts without the pressure of losing lives. Clearing a set of ten stages triggers a short cinematic sequence before unlocking the next world.
The Challenge Mode significantly increases the stakes by introducing both a strict time limit and a finite number of lives (represented by monkeys). Success in this mode demands near-perfect execution, as failure to reach the goal within the constraints results in the loss of a life.
A dedicated Practice Mode is available, allowing players to revisit and refine their skills on any stage previously completed in either the Story or Challenge modes. This serves as a low-pressure environment for stage memorization and mechanical refinement.
Beyond the core rolling platforming, the title features an extensive suite of competitive and cooperative party games. These mini-games utilize the physics engine and rolling mechanic in varied contexts, significantly expanding the game’s replayability, particularly for local multiplayer sessions involving up to four participants.
The package includes twelve distinct mini-games that offer alternative ways to engage with the mechanics:
The narrative sets the stage for the action: the inhabitants of Jungle Island are enjoying their day until the villainous Dr. Bad-Boon flies over in his airship and steals all the island's bananas. When the team demands their return, Bad-Boon proposes marriage to MeeMee as the only condition for their release. Following MeeMee's refusal, the team pursues Bad-Boon, who initiates a plot to destroy the island by planting a time bomb inside an erupting volcano. The monkeys successfully remove the bomb, sending it sinking into the sea, forcing Bad-Boon to flee underwater while the team gives chase.
