This is a visually upgraded remaster of the classic arcade-action FPS, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. You engage in relentless, high-octane combat, mowing down massive alien hordes across Mayan-era environments. The story sees Sam crash-landing in Central America, seeking portals to reach his destination. This version preserves the core fast-paced shooting while adding modern HD visuals and full Steam support, including 16-player co-op. It is a faithful modernization for fans of pure, unadulterated arena shooters.
The narrative picks up immediately following the events of the preceding installment. Sam finds himself aboard the starship SSS Centerprice, heading toward Sirius. However, an unexpected collision with a "Croteam crate-bus" sends the vessel plummeting back toward Earth. Instead of landing in Egypt as Sam feared, the crash deposits him in Central America during the Mayan age. With the starship heavily damaged, Sam learns that a backup Sirian vessel exists on Earth, but it is located in a different time period. To reach his goal, Sam must navigate the ancient landscapes and uncover the locations of hidden Sirian portals that will allow him to bridge the temporal gap.
This game centers on relentless, large-scale combat against overwhelming hordes of enemies. It is fundamentally an arena-based shooter that emphasizes constant movement and managing large groups of aggressive foes. The core mechanics focus on fast-paced action, utilizing an arsenal of powerful weaponry against iconic, relentless alien threats. The gameplay loop involves moving through environments, triggering massive enemy spawns, and surviving through aggressive offense.
As a remaster, the primary focus was on modernization while preserving the original gameplay structure. This version features substantial visual upgrades, including enhanced graphics and textures, bringing the environments and character models up to contemporary standards. Audio components have also been refreshed. Crucially for modern play, this edition fully supports Steam features, including achievements and online connectivity. The fundamental level design, enemy placement, and weapon feel remain faithful to the original release, ensuring that the core arcade-action FPS experience is intact.
A significant component of the experience is its robust multiplayer capability. The game supports up to 16 players in cooperative modes, allowing groups to tackle the campaign together.
This specific release includes one piece of additional downloadable content (DLC). It does not feature any standalone expansions.
