This foundational 2001 first-person shooter/adventure game immerses you in a Martian rebellion against the oppressive Ultor Corporation, set against a backdrop of brutal mining conditions and a spreading plague. Its core feature is the revolutionary Geo-Mod technology, allowing players to completely destroy and alter environments in real-time using 15 weapons and 5 controllable vehicles. The gameplay loop centers on explosive combat and tactical demolition across the colonized Red Planet.
The atmosphere of this game is one of oppression and uprising. Players step into the boots of a miner caught in the crossfire, forced to fight for survival as the entire Martian colony erupts into chaos. The story centers on the escalating conflict between the exploited workforce and the powerful, uncompromising forces of the Ultor Corporation. The environment itself reflects this tension—a harsh, industrial landscape ripe for conflict.
The defining feature of this title is its revolutionary Geo• Mod technology. This system allows players to completely alter and destroy the environment in real-time. Unlike many contemporary shooters, nearly any structure or terrain feature can be damaged, collapsed, or strategically demolished using the available arsenal. This mechanic fundamentally changes combat and level traversal, forcing players to think vertically and destructively about their approach to objectives.
As a first-person shooter, the game emphasizes dynamic combat scenarios. Players have access to a substantial arsenal, including 15 different weapons designed for maximum impact. Beyond standard infantry combat, the gameplay is enhanced by the inclusion of five distinct, controllable vehicles, adding variety to large-scale engagements across the Martian surface and subterranean complexes.
The ability to pilot various vehicles allows for tactical shifts during missions, whether traversing vast distances or breaching fortified positions. Coupled with the destructive power of the weaponry, the environment becomes both a tool and an obstacle.
The primary objective is survival and leading the fight for freedom. Players must navigate the dangerous Martian facilities, utilizing both conventional weaponry and environmental destruction to overcome Ultor's security forces. The game loop involves progressing through story missions that leverage the Geo-Mod system for puzzle-solving and combat superiority.
As a main game title, the core experience remains complete, featuring both the single-player campaign and multiplayer action as originally intended. No official expansions or downloadable content have been released for this specific version of the game.

Kava is a new single player experience for Red Faction with an estimated casual playtime of 2-3 hours, putting it roughly on par with the length of the Red Faction base game. Set a short time prior to the events of the Red Faction campaign, Kava casts the player in the role of Kava Xarel.

This is the ultimate training phase of your Red Faction probationary period. If you survive you will prove yourself as the chosen one to liberate Mars from Ultor when the time comes. Many miners have been sent to this realm, none ever make it back.
