Quake II is a military sci-fi FPS, remastered and released in 2023, featuring fast-paced arena combat against the alien Strogg. You engage in intense, single-player missions utilizing a diverse arsenal. This version enhances the original experience with improved visuals and audio, while adding online multiplayer/co-op support across platforms, alongside the "Dimension of the Machine" expansion. It preserves the classic shooter mechanics.
This title is a modernized version of a classic military science fiction First-Person Shooter (FPS). Released in 2023, it revisits the core experience of confronting the hostile alien Strogg race. The gameplay centers on fast-paced, arena-style combat, requiring players to navigate complex environments while engaging enemies using a diverse arsenal of weaponry.
The primary loop involves moving rapidly through single-player campaign levels, utilizing movement mechanics designed for high speed and agility. Players manage health and ammunition resources while engaging in direct combat encounters. The game features a variety of weapons, each suited for different combat ranges and enemy types, demanding tactical weapon switching during engagements.
The narrative places the player in the role of a soldier deployed on a mission to infiltrate the Strogg homeworld and neutralize their central command structure. The setting is characterized by industrial, technological, and often claustrophobic environments typical of military sci-fi themes.
This iteration enhances the original 1997 experience through significant technical upgrades. These include improved visual fidelity, updated sound design, and modernized control schemes optimized for contemporary hardware. A key feature is the inclusion of the "Dimension of the Machine" expansion, offering new campaign content beyond the original release.
The game supports multiple modes of play. Beyond the core single-player campaign, it incorporates online multiplayer functionality. Furthermore, it supports cooperative play, allowing teams to tackle content together. This version emphasizes connectivity through the inclusion of cross-play capabilities between supported platforms.
While the fundamental level design and combat pacing remain faithful to the source material, the updates focus on accessibility and presentation. The core challenge and feel of the original fast-action shooter are preserved, layered with modern quality-of-life improvements.

"Call of the Void" picks up where "Call of the Machine" leaves off. With our protagonist trapped in the void, suddenly, they hear a voice in their mind. The entity speaking identifies itself as one of the ancient gods Vadrigar, who proposes to the protagonist to escape the void by sending them on a new mission for revenge against the Stroggs. This is in response to the Stroggs transforming the fallen Vadrigars (Chton and Shub Niggurath) and their followers into partially mechanical creatures in the service of the Strogg leader Makron.
