This 2009 Nintendo DS title is a faithful remake of a classic Generation II role-playing adventure set in the Johto region. The core gameplay loop involves exploring routes, capturing, training, and battling with creatures in turn-based strategic combat to challenge Gym Leaders. Distinctive features include the ability for the lead Pokémon to follow the player throughout the world and extensive connectivity options with other contemporary titles to complete the Pokédex. The narrative largely preserves the original story while incorporating modern quality-of-life enhancements.
This adventure revisits the familiar setting of Johto, offering players the chance to experience the region's story with updated graphics and sound design appropriate for the Nintendo DS hardware. The fundamental plot remains true to the original Generation II release, following the player's progression through the region's challenges while uncovering the secrets surrounding the legendary Pokémon of the area. Aspects introduced in the enhanced original version, such as certain quality-of-life features, are also integrated into this remake.
The game maintains the dual-region structure that made the original memorable, allowing players, after completing the main Johto league challenges, to travel to the Kanto region for an extended post-game adventure featuring eight additional Gym Leaders.
The most significant update centers on the integration of features that modernize the overall experience. A standout feature is the inclusion of an interactive element where the player's lead Pokémon can follow them throughout the world, mirroring an aspect previously exclusive to the enhanced original version. This feature allows for a deeper connection with the player's primary partner.
Furthermore, the game features robust connectivity options for its time. It allows players to trade and interact with Pokémon from other Generation IV titles released on the Nintendo DS, enabling the completion of the regional Pokédex by acquiring creatures not naturally found in Johto or Kanto.
The gameplay remains rooted in turn-based battles, requiring strategic team composition and move selection. Exploration is central, involving navigating towns, routes, and dungeons. Players manage a party of up to six Pokémon, utilizing their unique types and abilities both in combat and for traversing the environment via Hidden Machines (HMs).
Players select one of two available protagonists at the start of the game. The character not chosen by the player assumes a role within the narrative, acting as a secondary figure in the journey, similar to rivals in other contemporary titles.
This specific release does not feature any downloadable content (DLC) or post-launch expansions. The content included is self-contained within the initial release for the Nintendo DS platform.

Hack-Rom of Pokemon HeartGold, a project featuring Gens 1-9 Pokemon, modern mechanics like nature changing, and other QoL features using HG-Engine

A Rom Hack of Pokemon Heartgold with a completely modified map, unique story, and Pokemon from gens 1-8.

To begin, Garbage Gold is a trashmon hack, meaning the player will only be able to obtain and use weak Pokemon. In most cases, these Pokemon will be less than 425 BST (combined base stat total). There are some exceptions, but this is the general rule. A wide variety of encounters are available, and are significantly different from vanilla Heart Gold. Evolution levels are changed, and some Pokemon wont evolve at all if the evolutions are too good.

Moémon: Heart of Gold is a ROM hack based on the Heart Gold Version. What sets it apart from the original is the concept design.

This is a romhack meant to enhance and improve Pokémon HeartGold while keeping the original feel. Instead of being a complete reworking of the game, this is essentially “Vanilla HeartGold+”, with versions exclusives fixed, trade evolutions rectified, evolution items and berries both renewable, and alternatives provided for the more luck-based encounters. A good-sized amount of dialogue has been changed, as well as a handful of NPCs being added to explain some of the more obscure mechanics, not to mention superbosses to test your mettle. The core plot is identical to vanilla HeartGold. If you want to go back to HeartGold, whether to revisit memories or make new ones, this mod is meant to help make them a little more vivid.

This is exactly the same story as HeartGold & Soulsilver, but a 'Deluxe' version with gameplay improvements, additional content and improvements to the stats that should have been in the original version. All the mini sprites were changed with updated sprites from the 6th generation, and the dex contains monsters from the 1st to 4th generation (from Kanto to Sinnoh). The exclusives of each version are now in both versions and the evolutions by trade were also modified. Changes in Portuguese were made by ROM Hacker Luciano Santos.

Pokémon Sacred Gold is a hack of Pokémon HeartGold for the Nintendo DS. Like Drayano's many other Pokémon hacks, it makes all Pokémon available, makes changes to a variety of different Pokémon to increase their viability, increases the difficulty compared to the official games, and makes some minor story changes.
