Pipe Dream is an abstract strategy puzzle game, originally released in 1989, where you must quickly construct a continuous network of pipes to guide a substance called 'flooz' as far as possible. Players strategically place seven types of pipe segments—lines, corners, and crosses—before the flow starts. The core challenge involves optimizing the layout, as you can replace existing pieces for a small score penalty if the initial design fails. The game offers a pure, time-pressured spatial reasoning experience across its various levels.
The gameplay revolves around strategic placement of various pipe segments within a grid. Players are presented with a random assortment of seven distinct pipe types:
Each piece can be entered from either side. Before the flooz begins its journey from a randomly determined starting position, the player is allotted a brief period to place these components anywhere on the board. The flow stops if the flooz encounters a gap or connects to a piece that cannot accept the flow from the preceding segment.
A key element of the challenge involves managing complex arrangements where a critical gap might remain unfilled. Players retain the ability to replace an already placed pipe segment with a different type in the same square. While this offers flexibility in correcting errors or optimizing flow paths, it incurs a minor scoring penalty.
The primary objective is to maximize the distance or coverage of the 'flooz' flow by efficiently connecting the randomly supplied pipe pieces into a continuous network before the flow commences.
This title is presented as a main game experience. There are currently no officially listed downloadable content (DLC) packs, expansions, remakes, or remasters associated with this original release.
Upon its initial release, the game saw wide distribution across various home computer systems of the era, including DOS, Acorn Electron, Commodore 64/128/MAX, Acorn Archimedes, BBC Microcomputer System, Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Mac, and Atari ST/STE.

Your goal in this game is to build pipes. The water flows in the pipes and you have to build them as fast as possible to prevent the water to leak out. When you can manage to keep water in pipes for a defined period of time, you progress to a next level.
