Pacar, a main game released in 1983 for the SG-1000, casts you as a green car navigating road mazes to clear all scattered red dots for points. Movement is continuous until hitting a wall, and reversing is slow, demanding careful route planning. You evade aggressive blue and red enemy cars, with red cars matching your speed. Collecting power-ups grants temporary invincibility, allowing you to score bonus points by hitting enemies. The game cycles through two maps, featuring bridge elements, and increases difficulty by adding more enemy cars in subsequent rounds.
The environment features two distinct maps that cycle continuously. The game claims a "three-dimensional" aspect, as certain roads on the first map function as bridges crossing over other roadways.
The player must avoid two primary types of enemy vehicles. Blue cars originate from a central garage area and patrol the map, only actively pursuing "Pacar" when it is in close proximity. Red cars spawn randomly behind the player and exhibit more aggressive pursuit tactics. Furthermore, red cars will match any speed increase initiated by the player. Contact with either enemy under normal circumstances results in the loss of a life.
A key element involves the game's equivalent of power-up items, which appear after clearing a certain number of smaller dots. Consuming these grants temporary invincibility, visually indicated by "Pacar" turning purple. While invincible, the player can crash into enemy cars for points, starting at 200 and doubling with each successive hit (200, 400, 800, etc.). This state also causes aggressive red cars to slow down. Unlike some comparable titles, the instant respawn of blue cars from the garage after deletion allows for potentially high point combos, even though there are typically fewer enemies on screen overall.
Progression is structured around rounds. After completing both available maps, the player advances to the next round, which introduces more blue cars to the playfield. Certain rounds feature variations, such as Round 4 replacing the standard blue cars with a single, faster blue car. Extra lives are awarded every 10,000 points achieved.
This title is a main game release and was launched exclusively for the SG-1000 platform.
