As a 2004 remake of the original action-adventure shooter, Metroid: Zero Mission modernizes Samus Aran's first mission on Planet Zebes with updated 2D graphics and refined mechanics, including the wall jump. You explore a non-linear alien labyrinth, acquiring power-ups to unlock new areas. This version expands the original story with new cutscenes and introduces entirely new post-game content, while also including the original 1986 game upon completion.
As a remake, this version significantly updates the presentation of the original experience. It features substantially enhanced 2D graphics and detailed environments, moving beyond the limitations of the 8-bit source material. The audio design has also been overhauled to enhance the atmosphere of isolation and tension inherent in deep space exploration.
Gameplay mechanics have been refined, incorporating modernizations from later entries in the series. Samus’s move set is expanded beyond the original iteration, notably including abilities like the wall jump. This addition fundamentally alters how players approach map traversal and puzzle-solving within the complex structure of Zebes.
While the original game offered a minimal narrative framework, this remake fully develops the story of Samus Aran's initial assignment against the Space Pirates and Mother Brain. This is achieved through the introduction of new, fully realized cutscenes and action sequences that provide greater context and stakes for the mission.
The structure remains largely faithful to the original map layout and progression flow, preserving the core exploration loop. However, this version introduces entirely new areas and challenges not present in the 1986 release, particularly extending the adventure beyond the initial confrontation with the primary antagonist.
A significant feature of this release is the inclusion of the original game. Upon successful completion of the remake, players gain access to an emulated version of the 1986 title, allowing for direct comparison between the original vision and the updated interpretation.
For players utilizing the original hardware, connectivity options were provided. Linking this cartridge with the subsequent title in the series via the Game Link Cable unlocked supplementary content, specifically a picture gallery related to that later adventure.
This action-adventure shooter was initially released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance platform. It has since seen digital re-release on the Wii U console.
This specific title does not feature any associated downloadable content packs or standalone expansions.
It contains: Non realistic looking violence towards human characters
Low level animated violence

METROID: CROCOMIRE’s LAST STAND is Roebloz’s second Metroid: Zero Mission hack, this time starring the X parasite mimic SA-X in an alternate timeline where Samus encountered an X instead of The Baby at the end of Metroid II: Return of Samus, taking down the last of the Space Pirates for complete galactic domination of the X! The hack redesigns the whole map and has quite a few new tilesets, (Mostly from Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion) granting a brand-new experience that feels quite close to Super Metroid. The goal is to terminate Crocomire in the Dissolvery, which is locked behind 4 Security Locks, (Similar to Fusion) however one unique thing that this ROM hack does it that you have a great choice of which order you want to do things in. You could get Space Jump before even touching the Varia Suit, get the Plasma Beam as your second beam upgrade, everything is possible if you’re clever enough. The major items also move around during a “CORE-X” playthrough, (This game’s equivalent to Hard Mode) granting even greater replay value, especially to get those nice ending pictures. And yes indeed, the player sprites have been changed to those of the SA-X from Fusion, making the hack the second one to ever have custom Samus graphics in Zero Mission. The length of the hack is pretty short, (Around 2 hours) but going through all the endings and exploring the different paths of every difficulty could more than quadruple that. A full map is included with the download, with two different styles (And two different ones to reflect the changes in Hard Mode) There are also other various ASM tweaks thanks to the talented ASM hackers of Metroid Construction, such as the Crocomire final boss being very close to Super Metroid’s, and the Fusion beams being ported back into Zero Mission. So if you are looking for a refreshing Zero Mission hack with a Super Metroid vibe, this hack is for you!
