Limbus Company is a darkly stylish, turn-based Strategy RPG from 2023 where you manage twelve "Sinners" aboard a bus to retrieve powerful relics across a dystopian City. Gameplay centers on a unique clash-based combat system where winning skill matchups is crucial. Customization is deep via the "Identity" system, letting you assign unique roles to your crew members. The experience blends strategic battles with uncovering the grim narrative and backstories of your literary-inspired team.
The narrative thrust involves navigating the ruins of a City governed by various powerful factions, or "Wings." Your primary mode of transport and operation is the Mephistopheles bus, which grants access to otherwise unapproachable locations, or "Nests." Success hinges on adapting quickly to the distinct culture and technology encountered in these new environments. As you explore and engage in combat, you gradually unlock deeper insights into the backstories and motivations of your Sinners, making exploration integral to character development.
The combat system is central to the experience, relying heavily on a unique clash-based mechanic. Victory in encounters is determined by successfully winning these skill clashes against enemies, which include both rival syndicates and monstrous abnormalities. This requires careful planning and execution of your team's abilities across multiple turns.
Deep team customization is facilitated through the "Identity" system. This system allows the Manager to assign different roles, skill sets, and specialized abilities to each of the twelve Sinners. By swapping Identities, players can fundamentally alter how a Sinner functions in battle, encouraging diverse team compositions tailored for specific challenges presented by the environment or enemy types.
The core loop involves managing your crew of Sinners, preparing their Identities, and then deploying them via the Mephistopheles bus into various Nests to retrieve the Golden Boughs. This exploration is punctuated by strategic combat encounters. Successful missions yield resources and narrative progression, which in turn allow for further character enhancement and deeper dives into the lore of the dystopian City and the personal histories of the crew members.
As a main game title, the core experience is self-contained. Currently, there are no officially released DLCs or major expansions available for this title. The focus remains on the primary narrative progression and the systems introduced at launch across its available platforms: PC, iOS, and Android.
