This is a remaster of the 2004 action-adventure title, blending platforming, shooting, and vehicle segments. You play as Jak, exiled to the Wasteland, who gains powerful Light Eco abilities to fight tyranny in Haven City. This version updates the experience with 720p HD visuals and stereoscopic 3D support, faithfully preserving the core gameplay loop while modernizing its presentation for PlayStation 3 and Vita.
The narrative begins with Jak and Daxter being cast out into the harsh Wasteland by the authoritarian Count Veger, following accusations of crimes against the technologically advanced Haven City. Rescued by inhabitants of the desert settlement, Spargus City, Jak is immediately tasked with proving his worth as a warrior through rigorous Arena challenges and essential service to the community that saved him. These early missions involve desert exploration, racing vehicles and local fauna, and gathering vital resources.
As the conflict escalates back in Haven City—a war raging between the Freedom League and the menacing Metal Heads and their robotic allies, the KG Death Bots—Jak discovers a deeper destiny. Guided by an oracle at a Precursor temple, he is imbued with powerful Light Eco abilities. These new powers grant him control over time manipulation, defensive shielding, healing capabilities, and even flight, balancing the darkness he harbors within.
The plot thickens as Jak reconnects with Ashelin, who urges him to return and defend Haven City. Though initially resistant due to his banishment, Jak eventually chooses to aid the fractured resistance, utilizing his new powers and established combat skills to fight for the city’s future against Count Veger’s machinations.
This release focuses on modernizing the presentation of the classic adventure. The primary enhancements center on visual fidelity and display options. Players can expect 720p HD visuals, offering a sharper and more detailed presentation of the expansive environments, from the arid deserts of Spargus to the war-torn streets of Haven City. Furthermore, the remaster includes support for stereoscopic 3D functionality, adding an extra layer of depth to the world.
The gameplay retains the blend of fast-paced action that defines the series. Core mechanics involve utilizing Jak’s evolving arsenal of Eco-based powers alongside traditional platforming and vehicular segments. Players engage in combat using both ranged weaponry and melee attacks, complemented by the unique abilities granted by the Light Eco, such as slowing down time during intense encounters.
This specific release is a direct remaster of the parent game and does not include any downloadable content (DLC) or additional expansions.
