This is a Mod for the Game Boy Advance RPG *Golden Sun*, released in 2023, integrating Quality of Life features from a later title into the original adventure. Core gameplay involves streamlined exploration: the Retreat ability now teleports you to any visited town, and the Avoid skill acts as a permanent random encounter toggle. Utility Psynergy outside of battle is now free to use, and items granting these skills initially appear as equippable gear before becoming traditional items upon selling the equipment.
This modification significantly alters how players interact with the world map and utility skills, aiming to reduce backtracking and repetitive actions common in older RPGs.
The Retreat ability has been substantially upgraded. Instead of only warping the party to the entrance of the last dungeon or town visited, it now functions as a true teleportation tool on the world map. Upon activation, players can select any previously visited town to instantly travel there, offering greater flexibility for restocking supplies or resting without tedious overland travel.
The "Avoid" function has been converted into a persistent random encounter toggle. Using it once completely disables all random battles (100% reduction), and using it again reactivates them. This allows players to control the pacing of exploration independently of the original game's mechanics.
A key focus of this QOL update is the integration of essential utility Psynergy directly into party members, regardless of their current class assignment. Furthermore, Psynergy skills used exclusively outside of combat no longer consume Psynergy Points (PP).
Utility Psynergy skills, such as those used for environmental manipulation (like Whirlwind or Growth), are now free to use when utilized on the world map or within dungeons, provided they are not being used during a battle sequence. These out-of-battle versions often carry distinct names (e.g., "Sprout" instead of "Growth") to differentiate them from their combat counterparts, which still require PP.
The way players acquire certain utility effects through items has also been adjusted. Initially, items that grant Psynergy are often found as equippable gear, such as weapons or armor. Equipping this gear grants the associated ability. Once that equipment becomes obsolete or outclassed by better gear, players can sell it at a shop, after which a traditional, consumable Psynergy item version becomes available for purchase in the Artifact section of item shops.
The primary appeal lies in experiencing the original adventure—the world, story, and core combat system—but with quality-of-life features that significantly reduce common frustrations associated with older RPG designs, particularly concerning travel time and the management of utility skills. This is a modification designed for those who enjoy the foundational *Golden Sun* experience but prefer the modern conveniences found in its sequel.
This content is classified as a Mod, meaning it requires the original *Golden Sun* game for the Game Boy Advance platform to be played. It does not include any official DLC or standalone expansions.
