Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is a 2015 high-definition remaster of a role-playing adventure set in the war-torn world of Orience, following Class Zero, fourteen military academy students fighting the Militesi Empire. Gameplay features real-time action combat where you control three of the fourteen unique characters simultaneously. This version preserves the core mission structure and story but upgrades visuals and audio, integrates previously multiplayer-only content into the single-player experience, and adds new difficulty settings, while removing the original multiplayer functionality.
The gameplay blends real-time action combat with strategic elements. Players control a squad of three active party members selected from the fourteen available students of Class Zero. Each of these characters possesses distinct weaponry and unique abilities, encouraging varied tactical approaches to encounters. Progression is structured around missions, punctuated by time spent exploring the central hub, Akademeia, and engaging in strategic battles on the world map.
A defining feature is the roster of fourteen playable characters, all of whom are central to the story. While players control three at any given moment, the ability to switch between them and utilize their specialized skill sets is crucial for overcoming challenges presented by the Militesi forces.
This high-definition version represents a significant technical upgrade over the original portable release. The remaster features substantially improved graphics and audio presentation suitable for modern consoles and PC displays. The core experience remains faithful to the original vision, but with modernized presentation.
The transition to the HD format involved several key changes. While the core narrative and mission structure remain faithful to the source material, the multiplayer functionality present in the original game has been removed. Content that was previously exclusive to multiplayer modes has been integrated into the single-player experience, ensuring all narrative and gameplay elements are accessible offline. Additionally, the remaster introduced additional difficulty settings for players seeking different levels of challenge.
The atmosphere is characterized by high-stakes military conflict juxtaposed with the lives of young students forced into adulthood by war. The setting of Orience, governed by the power of crystals, provides a backdrop for a story dealing with duty, sacrifice, and the harsh realities of imperial aggression.
Regarding post-launch content, there are currently no announced or available DLCs or expansions for this title. All core content is included in the base release of the remaster.
