Final Fantasy Legend II is a classic Role-Playing Game (RPG) adventure, first released in 1990, where you journey across interconnected worlds to find your missing father by gathering fragments of the mystical Magi power. The core gameplay involves exploring diverse, often quirky locales—like worlds of giants or realms obsessed with beauty—and engaging in party-based combat. A distinctive feature is the ability to choose initial heroes from Humans, Robots, and Monsters, allowing for varied party compositions throughout the quest to secure the Magi before sinister forces claim them.
The gameplay loop centers on exploration, character progression, and turn-based combat typical of the era's defining RPGs. Players navigate various mysterious lands, including deep caves, ancient temples, enemy strongholds, and even structures resembling traditional Japanese castles. The world design emphasizes travel between distinct realms, often connected by a great central tower, each presenting unique challenges and inhabitants.
A key feature of this adventure is the flexibility in party composition. Players begin by selecting four heroes to accompany them on their journey. The available races for initial selection include Humans, Robots, and Monsters, offering varied starting statistics and growth patterns that influence long-term strategy. As the adventure progresses, additional characters may join the party, further diversifying the team dynamic.
The game distinguishes itself through its imaginative world-building and the diversity of its environments and inhabitants. For instance, the journey includes visiting a world populated entirely by giants, and another realm where aesthetic values dictate social standing—a world that praises beauty while actively banishing ugliness. This focus on varied, sometimes quirky, settings provides a distinct flavor to the standard RPG structure.
The primary objective is the reunification of the Magi fragments. This quest demands extensive travel across the interconnected worlds. The atmosphere leans into an epic scope, dealing with themes of ancient power and the responsibility of safeguarding the world from those seeking ultimate authority. The narrative unfolds through encounters with the unique populations of each land, revealing more about the history of the Magi and the ancient Goddess they originated from.
As a main game title, there are no officially released Downloadable Content (DLC) packs or expansions associated with this version. The game has received one official remake since its initial release, offering updated presentation for modern audiences.
This title is an RPG/Adventure game originally launched on December 14, 1990, for the Game Boy platform.
