As an Expanded Game from 2005, Fable: The Lost Chapters is an action RPG where your choices physically alter your Hero's appearance and alignment in Albion. You train at the Heroes' Guild, complete quests, and face moral dilemmas that shape the story's outcome, including confrontations with Jack of Blades. This edition adds new areas, sixteen quests, monsters, and an extended post-game narrative continuing the adventure in the Northern Wastes. It is available on PC, Xbox, and Mac.
A key feature is the ability to interact with the world in nuanced ways. Players can engage in various professions outside of combat, such as blacksmithing or woodcutting, and their reputation precedes them throughout Albion. Furthermore, the game emphasizes player choice, not only in dialogue but in major story junctures that determine the fate of key characters and the ultimate conclusion of the narrative.
This version, The Lost Chapters, builds significantly upon the foundation of the original release. It introduces substantial new content, including nine additional explorable areas and sixteen new quests that extend the adventure beyond the initial conclusion. Players will encounter new monsters, acquire unique weapons and armor sets, and learn alignment-specific spells not present in the base game.
Narratively, several minor characters from the original story, such as Briar Rose and Scythe, are given greater importance and integrated into new main and side quests. The atmosphere is further enhanced by changes to character voices, such as a deeper, more demonic tone for the primary antagonist, Jack of Blades. The expanded storyline also allows players to investigate and resolve the murder mystery surrounding Lady Grey's sister.
A significant addition is the continuation of the story after the initial defeat of Jack of Blades. This epilogue sends the Hero to the Northern Wastes to assist the legendary hero Scythe against a newly emerging threat. Depending on the player's final choice regarding the powerful Sword of Aeons, they may acquire an equally potent, light-aligned weapon, Avo's Tear, to aid them in this final confrontation, which ultimately sees Jack of Blades return in a transformed state.
The primary distinction lies in the wealth of added content and narrative augmentation. Beyond the new zones and quests, this edition allows players to give objects to children and features fixes for certain technical issues present in the initial release, such as the "dig glitch."
This expanded edition was made available across multiple platforms, including the original Xbox, PC (Windows), and Mac OS X. Beyond the new content, this release also incorporated fixes for various glitches present in the initial version of the game.
No official downloadable content (DLC) packs or further expansions were released for this specific edition of the game.
