This 2003 PC title is a modification built on the Quake II engine, functioning as a first/third-person shooter with medieval fantasy and Christian themes. You play as Mike, sent into a troubled teen's mind to fight inner demons across 17 levels, playable solo or co-op. Gameplay features eight weapons mixing medieval arms (sword, crossbow) and holy spells, each with a damaging alternate fire mode. A unique mechanic allows players to pray to instantly regain full health while protected by a banishing aura. The "Flood" mode focuses on multiplayer survival against demon waves.
A key mechanical feature across the arsenal is the ability to toggle an alternate firing mode for every weapon. While these alternate attacks generally deliver increased damage, they come at the cost of consuming more ammunition or resources, requiring tactical decision-making during combat encounters.
Beyond the standard combat, the game introduces a unique defensive and restorative mechanic: the ability to pray. When Mike chooses to pray, he cannot fight, but he is enveloped in a protective aura capable of banishing approaching demons. This action fully restores the player's health, offering a distinct risk-reward element not typically found in the genre.
The opposition reflects the medieval fantasy environment, featuring enemies such as zombies, levitating necromancers, and various humanoid fighters, many of whom possess their own special abilities and alternate attacks, increasing the challenge.
In addition to the main story, there is a dedicated multiplayer mode known as Flood. This mode centers on survival, requiring players to fend off relentless waves of demons while simultaneously working to seal the portals from which they emerge. While primarily designed for multiplayer interaction, the Flood mode can also be played alongside friendly bots.
