Circle of Blood is a classic 2D third-person adventure game utilizing a point-and-click interface, where you guide George Stobbart through a global conspiracy involving the Knights Templar after a mysterious explosion in Paris. Progression relies on collecting and combining inventory items, using dialogue trees to question NPCs, and navigating via an evolving map. A key feature is the possibility of protagonist death, requiring a reload from the last save. Originally released in 1996, this puzzle-heavy title has since received both a remake and a remaster.
The gameplay loop centers on traditional adventure game interaction. Players guide the protagonist, George Stobbart, using a straightforward point-and-click interface to navigate environments and engage with the world. Progression is achieved primarily through puzzle-solving.
Solving challenges involves collecting various items throughout the game world. These inventory items can be combined with each other, used directly on environmental objects, or presented to non-player characters (NPCs) to elicit new information or progress the story. Dialogue sequences are managed through structured dialogue trees, often presented via "conversation icons" that guide the player through necessary questioning.
Clues are vital and are obtained by examining objects both within the player's inventory and those present in the scene. Navigation across the expansive game world is facilitated by an in-game map that dynamically updates as new locations are unlocked throughout the unfolding storyline.
A notable feature distinguishing this title from many contemporaries in the adventure genre at the time is the inclusion of potential protagonist death. Should the player make a critical error or fail a sequence, the game ends, requiring the player to resume from their last saved point, adding a layer of consequence to decision-making.
The adventure begins abruptly when the protagonist, an American residing in Paris, witnesses a bizarre incident involving an accordion-playing clown and a briefcase. This event immediately catapults the player into a sinister global intrigue centered around a fiercely guarded manuscript penned by the Knights Templar. The objective becomes revealing the truth behind this secret conspiracy and thwarting the Templars' nefarious plan.
As a foundational title in the adventure genre, this game has maintained relevance through subsequent releases, including a dedicated remake and a remaster. It is available across several platforms, including DOS, PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation, and Mac. There are no official downloadable content packs or expansions associated with this main title.

The classic multi-award winning adventure "Broken Sword - the Shadow of the Templars" returns with glorious 4K visuals and iconic remastered audio, pitching intrepid American George Stobbart and fearless journalist Nico Collard into a journey of perilous adventures and ancient conspiracies.

Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – The Director's Cut is an enhanced remake and director's cut of the classic 1996 point-and-click adventure game Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars. Unlike in the original game, where George Stobbart is the only playable character, Nicole Collard is controllable for selected game sections. While certain puzzles from the original segments were simplified, new first-person puzzles were also added. Hotspots are highlighted, and a hint system is added, along with a diary in which the player character takes notes. Some of the original game's dialogue and cutscenes were removed, with the blood edited out of retained cutscenes.

The Game Boy Advance port of Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars is pretty much the same game as the original, the only difference is that the graphics were adapted to fit the technical constraints of the console.
