The latest Dev Corner from Paradox Development Studio has pulled back the curtain on a significant shift in how we manage high-level command: the introduction of Army HQs. Unlike the current system where a general oversees an entire group from a distance, this new feature allows you to deploy a general directly to a specific division on the map. This creates a localized area-of-effect that provides unique tactical abilities to nearby units, forcing players to think carefully about exactly where their leadership is physically located on the front line.
However, putting your best commanders in the thick of the fight comes with a massive new risk: General Capture. If the division hosting your Army HQ is encircled and destroyed, that general won't just teleport back to the recruitment pool. Instead, they can be captured by the enemy. This adds a layer of high-stakes drama to encirclements that was previously missing. Losing a high-level field marshal during a failed offensive could now be a strategic catastrophe rather than a minor inconvenience.
To counter this, the developers are introducing recovery mechanics. The losing side will gain access to specific Recovery Raids, such as the "Rescue Captured General" mission. This suggests we might see more interaction with the espionage system or specialized division actions to retrieve lost assets. It shifts the meta from simple industrial management to a more personal, high-stakes game of protecting your most experienced officers. These features are still in the feedback stage, but they represent a clear push toward making the map feel more reactive and the individual divisions more significant.
